People need to stop with this broader trend of describing entirely unrelated shit as “possibly TERFy” like it’s not a goddamn “”“"vibe”“”“ you forks, it’s a specific set of political stances that applies within a certain context & often within that context only. Like ffs, please stop and learn what words actually mean for a change!!!!
Love, Simon (2018) perfectly displays the difference between a manipulative public proposal and a sweet grand romantic gesture in the best way possible. Martin, when trying to ask a girl out, publicly humiliates her by pressuring her to say yes to him in front of a huge crowd of people and putting her in the spotlight, making her visibly uncomfortable. When Simon makes the gesture to Blue, it gives “Blue” the opportunity to back out and not show his face, therefore making Simon the only subject of ridicule if the situation goes wrong, showing his dedication and his love for Blue in that he is willing to undergo EVEN MORE humiliation to find him. This, among other parts of the movie, clearly outlines the fact that homosexual people have perfected romance to a degree that straight people have not found. In this essay I will -
i genuinely feel like people within the lgbt community who try and defend straight people are good people who want to make the world better and softer and I appreciate that mindset so much, I was there once, but understanding that oppressors just,,,,,,CANT be discriminated against was a real rude awakening and learning that heterosexual people profit off of people like me, off of either our novelty or our controversy, made me more jaded and angry and made me realize the real healing power in satire and humor. a straight person can log out of tumblr and walk into the world with no fear based on their sexuality. none. me saying their romance is boring is such a minoscule thing and as much as i want to feel empathy for the hetero girl reading it and feeling bad for herself, she can just……get up and walk away. I don’t get that luxury. my existence is still political and im in danger by just being myself.
honestly? fuck that straight girl, feeling bad because a q*eer person made a joke. fuck every cishet person. individually they may not hurt us, but they benefit from a culture that does.
